Sheila Master
Clinical intern
Sheila Master (she/her) is an intern currently enrolled in the MSW program at Ohio State University. As an undergraduate, she received a BFA in Photography from University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sheila worked in arts education for 14 years before relocating to Chicago and brings her creative and curious outlook into the therapeutic space.
As a therapist, Sheila creates a space with clients that is safe, open, and energetic. She sees the client as the expert in their life and is honored to provide support and explore alongside. Her areas of focus include anxiety, depression, trauma, self-worth, relationships, and identity formation. Sheila views identity as our understanding of ourselves and the place we hold in the world. By exploring identity, we can achieve a deep knowing and acceptance of ourselves as well as the impact of our interactions. She believes that our minds and bodies are connected and that trauma can manifest with physical and emotional signs. Sheila assists in clients recognizing and leaning on their intrinsic strengths and resiliency. She sees the therapeutic relationship as a place where we engage with core desires of connection and belonging that can ultimately provide an opportunity for healing.
Sheila uses a strengths-based, trauma-informed, non-hierarchical, holistic approach in session. She helps clients build confidence and trust in themselves while encouraging self-compassion practices. Working with Sheila will provide a more accepting and compassionate self-image and fuller understanding of self allowing for more authentic connections with others. Sheila believes that therapy is a place to be curious and explore without judgment. She empowers clients to feel safe standing in the discomfort of uncertainty. Sheila identifies as queer and is interested in serving the 2SLGBTQIA+ community with empathy and understanding.
Some small things that bring Sheila joy are polaroids, coffee, and collecting decorative pins. She recently discovered her green thumb and relaxes by caring for her plants.
