Laila Rodriques
Therapist
Laila Rodriques (she/they) is a pre-licensed professional counselor with a MA in counseling psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and a BFA in Acting from DePaul University. She completed her training experience at Agave Studio for Psychotherapy, where she offered holistic support to young adults involved in the court system. She is interested in working with those who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), LGBTQIA+ individuals, performing artists, and individuals struggling with grief, loss, and faith concerns.
Laila strives to bring warmth, humor, and a sense of safety into the therapy room. She knows that your trust is earned, so will ultimately understand the importance of your own perspective and expertise. She strives for you to ultimately feel like a collaborator in the therapy process.. Laila operates from a Liberation Psychology framework, which means that your work together will involve an awareness of the systems we are all operating inside of: capitalism, racism, ableism - to name a few! Many of the decisions we make and the
ways we feel about ourselves are the result of these systems. She invites you to slow down and explore how it feels to question the rules you have been unconsciously following in your daily life. The goal is to help you identify the way that these systems and rules have affected you, and empower you to decide how to move forward and create a life that matches up with your values while navigating the everyday challenges and triumphs that are part of being human.
Laila’s intention is to help you foster a compassionate, grounded, and curious inner voice. To help you build autonomy and experience the pleasure of empowerment. To hold space for you to be imperfect, make mistakes, say the wrong things, and leave it all out on the table. Ultimately, her intention is to aid you in developing the tools to build a life that is worth living on your terms.
In her free time, Laila enjoys reading books, seeing movies by herself, and sitting around doing absolutely nothing in particular with her wonderful friends and her lovely partner.
