Benji Marton

Director of Operations

Benji Marton, LCSW, SEP (he/they), is a licensed clinical social worker. He holds a bachelor’s degree  in Fiction Writing from Columbia College Chicago and a master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago. Benji is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.

Benji sees you as the ultimate healer in your journey. He can be the guide, but it is your journey. He will guide you to listen to that voice within in order to build capacity to be with all parts of yourself. Benji believes that it is through this capacity that we find the highest form of ourselves. Your body knows who you are, even if your brain hasn’t been able to receive the message. Benji also believes in connecting to the wisdom of our ancestors, many of whom understood what it meant to heal in relationship. To  access this particular wisdom, sometimes we have to digest ancestral trauma. As a descendent of Ashkenazi Jews who were forced to flee their homeland, Benji recognizes the insidious impact of intergenerational trauma. Like any form of trauma, ancestral/intergenerational/historical trauma must be seen, explored, and held in order to experience healing. .

Benji also believes  that playfulness is the path to vulnerability and as such, is necessary for transformation. Your healing is serious, of course; but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun doing it! Benji works well with clients who have access to, or seek to access, playfulness and joy. Healing that focuses only on pain facilitates further traumatization. Healing that can be influenced by play and joy allows us to access metamorphosis.

Benji identifies as queer and enjoys working with clients who share that identity, but also believes that cishet folx can benefit from accessing their own radical authenticity. Benji sees clients in individual, relational and group settings. He believes in affirming all identities, no matter how far from the norm they are. This includes those identifying on the 2SLGBTQIA+ spectrum, polyamory/CNM, kinky/BDSM, and/or sex workers.

In his free time, Benji enjoys spending time with his beloved cat Grimm and dog Edie, watching  apocalyptic/horror TV and movies, writing and reading fiction, and connecting to other humans. Benji can be reached at Benji@headhearttherapy.com.
