erin-mcshane-lcpc-cadcErin McShane, LCPC, CADC is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She holds a Masters degree from Lewis University and specializes in substance use disorders, self-esteem, codependency, relationship issues, and mood and anxiety disorders.

Erin has worked as a primary counselor in the intensive outpatient program at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation in Chicago since 2013 and previously worked in the inpatient detox unit at Linden Oaks Behavioral Health at Edward Hospital. Erin understands the challenges during and after treatment including rebuilding relationships, coping with triggers, and the need for self-care and relapse prevention.

Erin values the therapeutic relationship as a channel for healing and she helps clients connect to their emotions in a supportive environment. Erin’s compassionate yet direct style is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy. Erin has experience with 12-Step Facilitation and she helps clients integrate spiritual principles such as honesty, hope, and willingness into all areas of their lives.

Erin values balance, and she draws from resources that are readily available -- but often overlooked -- including one’s connection to the body, nature, and community. Erin is passionate about awakening the senses through experiences in nature. By taking space from a fast-paced, stressful, technology-dependent lifestyle, Erin feels we can access feelings of freedom, acceptance, and peace. Erin loves to brainstorm ways to connect with nature, whether it is walking along the lake, journaling under the shade of a tree, or creating a garden. She believes that connection is the opposite of addiction, and that recovery is possible through a healthier relationship with oneself and others.

In her spare time, Erin loves traveling, camping, kayaking, hiking in Colorado, and spin classes.
