Samantha Steiber

therapist

Samantha (Sam) Steiber (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She holds a bachelor's degree from a small liberal arts college, The New School, where she immersed herself in theater, media studies, and a crash course in late teens and early-twenties adulting. She holds a Master's in Social Work from New York University, where she studied child development, family systems, and attachment. Sam specializes in mental health support for adolescents and adults, with a focus on healing from trauma, relationships and attachment challenges, family systems, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression.

Life can be challenging! If you are seeking help and healing in the form of therapy, kudos to you, and welcome. Sam acknowledges the intersectional nature of life's struggles and sees therapy as an invitation for connection, not just with a trusted therapist, but with the different aspects of oneself. By exploring the relationship between past and present, body and mind, dreams and reality, we unearth new ways of thinking, feeling, and understanding ourselves and the world around us. Sam also has a special interest in working with those in the healing and helping professions – educators, medical providers, and legal advocates, to name a few – in nonprofit and public sector organizations.

Sam's clinical work draws from relational and attachment-focused therapies (emphasis on self-transformation via an understanding of early attachments and the cultivation of healthy relationships) and self-psychology (emphasis on empathy), as well as meditation and mindfulness, feminism, spirituality, and social justice advocacy. She also has familiarity with 12-step programs and similar support groups. As a therapist, Sam fosters a collaborative, nurturing, and affirming space for folks from all walks of life.

Prior to transitioning to private practice, Sam worked as a social worker in the fields of community mental health, legal advocacy, and public education. She also has a background in union organizing and advocacy.
