Angela Sundstrom

Clinical intern

Angela Sundstrom (she/her) is a master’s degree student in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at DePaul University and previously received her MFA in Creative Writing at the New School in New York City. She has 10+ years experience working in communications and writing.

Angela’s therapeutic style is humanistic and strengths-based, which means she leads with empathy, authenticity and acceptance. Angela believes that humans can create meaning and change in their lives if they feel safe to explore, which is why she fosters a therapeutic space that is non-judgemental and supportive. She believes the stories we tell about ourselves are powerful and have the ability to heal us from harmful narratives imparted by trauma and oppressive systems. Angela uses elements of narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, DBT and mindfulness to support this work.

Angela’s experience with alcohol, substance use, 12-step/recovery programs and harm-reduction inform her understanding of addiction as often intertwined with trauma, shame, anxiety and depression. She believes connection and support are key for recovery, and views grief, loss and navigating relationships through a trauma-informed lens.

Angela identifies as bisexual and is passionate about working with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, especially those encountering biphobia. She is kink/BDSM and polyamorous/ENM affirming.

Previously, she lived on the East Coast and enjoys writing, poetry, art and literature. She loves all dogs, especially low-riders.
